Description
Originally published in Spain under the title Un libro sobre Swedenborg, and later translated into English for the journal Arcana, Dr. Anton’s book is the first extensive study to place the metaphysics of Emanuel Swedenborg–the eighteenth-century scientist, theologian, and visionary–in a context relevant to contemporary philosophical method. This profound and absorbing work applies many of the insights into Swedenborg’s theology initially made by the great Islamic scholar Henry Corbin, and also breaks entirely new ground in its consideration of Swedenborg’s rightful place within the philosophia perennis and the history of both Eastern and Western philosophy as a whole. Dr. Anton has, in addition, included a fascinating chapter that gives valuable information about Swedenborg’s influence on such important Hispanic writers as Miguel de Unamuno and Jorge Luis Borges.
